Electrical Engineer – Building Services

Melbourne, VIC | Consulting Engineering | Full-time

Our client is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join their Melbourne building services team. This is a strong opportunity for an engineer with solid consulting experience, proven Melbourne project exposure, and the ability to contribute to high-quality electrical design across a range of building services projects.

This role would suit someone operating at Electrical Engineer, Senior Electrical Engineer or developing Associate level, who enjoys working in a consulting environment and wants to be part of a team with a strong reputation across multidisciplinary building services.

About the role

You will be involved in the design, documentation and delivery of electrical building services projects across the Melbourne market. You will work closely with internal engineering teams, clients, architects, project managers and other consultants to deliver practical, compliant and commercially sound electrical solutions.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical capability, good communication skills and an understanding of the Melbourne consulting engineering environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver electrical building services design across commercial, health, education, residential, mixed-use, defence, government or similar building projects.
• Prepare electrical design documentation, calculations, reports, specifications and technical schedules.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary building services teams, including mechanical, fire, hydraulics, ESD and structural consultants.
• Attend client, design and project coordination meetings.
• Liaise with architects, builders, project managers and external consultants.
• Support project delivery from concept through to detailed design, tender, construction and commissioning stages.
• Provide technical input and problem-solving across electrical services design.
• Support junior engineers and drafters where required.
• Maintain strong client relationships and represent the business professionally in the Melbourne market.

About you

To be successful, you will ideally have:

• Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience working as an Electrical Engineer within a consulting engineering firm.
• Proven experience in building services / MEP electrical design.
• Previous project experience in the Melbourne market.
• Strong understanding of Australian standards, NCC requirements and local authority requirements.
• Experience across LV power distribution, lighting, communications, security, fire detection, emergency lighting and associated electrical building services systems.
• Ability to work across multiple projects and deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Confidence working directly with clients and project stakeholders.
• A collaborative, practical and solutions-focused approach.

Highly regarded

• CPEng, NER or working towards professional registration.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading small project teams.
• Existing relationships across the Melbourne building services market.
• Experience on complex or multidisciplinary projects.
• Previous exposure to health, defence, commercial, education, government, mixed-use or high-rise residential projects.
